Description

This article describes how to resolve connectivity issues observed when using a DAC cable on FortiSwitch 148F.

Scope

FortiSwitch 148F versions 7.2.8 or older, 7.4.4 or older, 7.6.0 series units, and DAC Cable FN-CABLE-SFP+3are  also reported as DAC-SFP-30-03-HN.

Solution

Upgrade FortiSwitch OS to v7.2.9 or v7.4.5 or v7.6.1. See release notes accordingly.

In previous versions, there is a known issue that prevents the 3M Fortinet DAC cable from being used on FortiSwitch 148F series units. To identify the offending part number use the following FortiSwitch OS command.

get switch modules summary

Portname State Type DMI Transceiver RX Vendor Part Number Serial Number
__________ _______ _______ ___ ____________ ___ ________________ ________________ ______________

port1 INSERT SFP/SFP+ N 10G-Base-CR* OK +Fortinet DAC-SFP-30-03-HN FTRAC3000000XXXX <- DAC CABLE.

Instead, use the following alternatives to avoid unreliable connectivity when a DAC cable is needed on this FortiSwitch model (note this only applies to older versions, an issue already resolved from v7.2.9, v7.4.5, v7.6.1 or earlier):

1M (FN-CABLE-SFP+1: MITS DAC-SFP-30-01-HN, P29285) or 5M (FN-CABLE-SFP+5: MITS DAC-SFP-24-05-HN, P29287) DAC
