Description

This article describes the behavior when alert emails are sent to a specific email address; the test always returns a reply from noreply@FortiPAM_IP_Address.

Scope

FortiPAM.

Solution

Customized configuration will be as per the example below:

  • SMTP server : 10.10.20.1
  • FortiPAM IP : 10.10.20.2
  • Email address : lab@fortinet.de

Run the debugs to confirm if the intended behavior is seen:

diagnose debug reset
diagnose debug enable
diagnose debug console timestamp enable
diagnose debug application alertmail -1

diagnose log alertmail test

diagnose debug disable

Results from debugs:

2025-10-17 16:17:54 mail_info:
from:10.10.20.2 user:noreply
2025-10-17 16:17:54 mail_info:
reverse path:noreply@10.10.20.2
user name:noreply

This is expected behavior for all options where the event subscription is set to a custom email address.

This is fixed in the upcoming release of FortiPAM v1.8.0.
