DescriptionDifferent Information Listed for the Same MAC Address Across Multiple Pods
ScopeVersion: Network Sentry 8 and below
SolutionVersion: Network Sentry 8 and below
Issue: The the Administrative UI of the Network Sentry Control Manager (NCM), the same MAC address could have different hostnames, usernames or hosts state among different pods.
The following feature is enabled by default on the NCM:
"Enable on demand host propagation between Control Servers"
This setting copies registered hosts to the other Control Servers as long as...
- The other Control Servers do not have a rogue record already for that host
- The associated user registered to the host has the "Propagate Hosts" option enabled (which is enabled by default on every user).
Be aware that changes in host state on one Network Sentry Server are never propagated to any other Network Sentry Server. As the host logs on and off the network and the host state changes, these changes are not copied from one Control Server to another. The only way a pod gets an existing host record updated is when the host actually connects to the network the pod manages.
For more information on other host propagation features, see the Online Help Topic "Host Propagation" in the NCM Administrative UI.
Solution: This is normal behavior.
