Description

A FortiManager backup file can only be properly restored on a unit which has been previously wiped and is running the same firmware version as the backup file.

A FortiManager is properly reinitialized by first installing the firmware version to which the backup file will be restored, and the following commands executed:

exe reset all
exe format disk
Once these commands have been run, the system will be ready to restore the backup file.

The date and time on the FortiManager must also be properly set.  If incorrect, the restore may fail with the following error message:
"Failed to restore all settings because of the invalid backup file."
