Metadata variables were introduced in FortiManager 7.2. They can be used as variables in scripts, templates, firewall address objects, IP pools, and VIPs, but are not supported at the device level. The interface will display an error mentioning that an invalid IP address / invalid number format was provided even when the variables are legitimate.

These variables icons in the device level SD-WAN will be removed to avoid confusion about using it on the device level.
