Description

This article describes how to promote or failover the FortiGate HA cluster member to a primary with FortiManager. It is not possible to change the HA priority via FortiManager and perform an installation to trigger a promotion or failover. 

Scope

FortiManager.

Solution
  1. To promote a FortiGate cluster unit from secondary to primary, navigate to Device Manager -> Managed FortiGate, select the FortiGate cluster unit, and select 'Edit'.

  1. The user will be able to view the Promote button under HA. Select the Promote button to initiate the process of promoting the secondary cluster member (FGT2) to the primary.

  1. Once the process is completed, the previously secondary cluster member (FGT2 in this instance) will be shown as a primary cluster member.
