Description

This article describes why the FortiManager/FortiAnalyzer VM instance GUI notifications are showing a message:

'FortiManager VM requires minimum 8GB Memory and 4x vCPU' on the top right of the System Settings module.

The notification message is applicable to any of the instance that runs on the VM platform e.g. VMware, KVM, AWS, Azure, etc.

The conditions that lead to the notification are:

  • The allocated virtual CPU core is not meeting the minimum requirements which is 4x vCPU.
  • The allocated memory is not meeting the minimum requirements which is 8x 1024MB = 8192MB.
  • Any of the above conditions.
Scope FortiManager/FortiAnalyzer-VM v7.0.x to v7.2.4, v7.2.5+ requires minimum 16GB RAM.
Solution
  1. To verify, take an example with the FortiManager instance which running in VMware as follows

get sys performance.

Under the Memory section, the Total (Excluding Swap) is below 8GB. The system will check on the total value here and if it is not over the 8GB threshold, the said notification will be generated on the GUI.

  1. To fix the issue, shut down the instance re-assign the memory to 8GB re-power up, and re-verify with the same CLI command in step (1) and the GUI notification should disappear.
  2. The same verification method was also applied to the total number of vCPU cores allocated to the instance.
  3. The example above applies to both FortiManager and FortiAnalyzer-VM.

The requirements for each use case may be much higher, depending on lograte (FortiAnalyzer) or device count (FortiManager). For more details, be sure to consult the 'Minimum system requirements' section of the VM admin guide for the appropriate product/version/cloud platform.
