The latest firmware version FortiManager can show 3 icons for the firmware template.
1) Sync.
This sign represents the Firmware version from the template and FortiGate are the same.

From the FortiManager managed device:
2) Modified.
This icon is displayed after that the device has been assigned from the firmware template (this status occurs only once). The template will justify if the firmware version is the same or a different one. Hence, the status of the FortiGate config status will be modified as well as the firmware template.

3) Out-of-Sync.
This means that the firmware from the firmware template is not matched with the FortiGate device. To ensure the sign change to 'sync', it is needed to upgrade the FortiGate firmware using the template. After the FortiGate is upgraded based on the firmware template, the status will be changed to 'sync'.
