This article describes how to troubleshoot when the FortiMail delay email with error Sender reputation: temp fail x.x.x.x after throttle with score 42: threshold is 35. |
| Scope | FortiMail. |
| Solution |
With the ratio of good to bad emails, the sender reputation feature determines the sender's current reputation score and takes action depending on it.
The sender reputation score is determined by the FortiMail unit using statistics that are up to 12 hours old; the score is influenced more by recent statistics than by older statistics. When a sender doesn't send spam for a while, their reputation score goes down (gets better). The score itself is on a scale from 0 to 100, where 100 indicates a sender who is wholly unsuitable and 0 indicates an entirely acceptable sender.
The default value is 35. More details can be found under Viewing sender reputation statuses.
To address this issue, the cutoff value can be modified in the session profile.
In FortiMail go to Profile -> Session, select the session profile or create a new one, expand the Sender reputation, and modify the Throttle user at a value of more than 42.
Result: FortiMail will accept users with a score of 50 and below. |
