Description This article describes how to get FortiMail SNMP OID for getting basic system information and monitoring basic system resources like CPU, memory, logs' disk usage, and mail's disk usage.
Scope FortiMail, FortiMail-VM.
Solution

To monitor FortiMail appliances via SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol), the appropriate Management Information Base (MIB) files are required. These files define FortiMail-specific OIDs (Object Identifiers).

By downloading and importing the FortiMail and Fortinet Core MIB files and enabling SNMP on the appliance, administrators can integrate FortiMail health and performance monitoring into any SNMP-based management system.

Procedure:

  1. Log in to the Support Portal, navigate to the Fortinet Customer Service & Support portal, and enter the account credentials to log in.
  2. Locate Firmware Images. From the top menu, go to Download and select Firmware Images.
  3. Select Product and Version. In the product list, choose a specific FortiMail model and select the firmware version currently installed on the device.
  4. Download MIB Files. Inside the firmware directory, open the MIB folder and download the available MIB files by selecting the HTTPS link.
  5. Import MIB Files into SNMP Manager. Load or compile the downloaded MIBs into the SNMP monitoring system. Once imported, the manager can interpret FortiMail-specific SNMP data (e.g., CPU, memory, RAID, disk usage).

Important Considerations:

  • Fortinet Core MIB.

Always download the Fortinet Core MIB in addition to the FortiMail MIB. This file contains OIDs that are common to all Fortinet products and are required for proper monitoring:

  • Enable SNMP on FortiMail.

Ensure SNMP is enabled on the FortiMail appliance: Go to System -> Network -> Interface and configure the SNMP community (for v1/v2c) or user credentials (for v3).
