Description

This article describes how to configure a user alias using the LDAP User Alias Option.

Scope FortiMail all versions.
Solution
  1. Configure User Alias value in Windows AD by setting the ProxyAddresses value as below:

  1. Configure the User Alias option on FortiMail by navigating to Profile -> LDAP -> edit the preconfigured LDAP profile -> Move to User Alias Option -> Set the below values:

    (&(|(objectClass=User)(objectClass=Contact)(objectClass=Group)(objectClass=publicFolder)(objectClass=msExchDynamicDistributionList))(|(proxyAddresses=smtp:$m)(mail=$m)))

     

  2. Perform a Test to confirm that the user alias can sync successfully with LDAP:

  3. Navigate to Domain & User -> Edit the configured domain -> LDAP Options -> User alias/address mapping profile -> Choose the configured LDAP Profile with the user alias option.

Result:

The email was sent from 'user1@lab1.local' to address 'Test.user@lab.local', after alias expansion, the mail was delivered to mailbox 'tuser@lab.local'.

Note:

This configuration is also possible to use if it is requested to send only one Quarantine report to the Primary email address instead of to all aliases. Regarding the example above, the Quarantine report will be sent only to 'tuser@lab.local'
