It is always recommended to review and read through the respective version's Release Notes and make sure to back up the FortiIsolator configuration before the upgrade activity. Refer to the documentation at the end of this article for the Release Notes and the guide to backup the FortiIsolator configuration.
Note that the firmware image for all the VM versions of the FortiIsolator is the same which is using the 'FIS_VM_Upgrade' .out file.
Firmware image:
FortiIsolator-VM provides several options for firmware upgrades.
Firmware upgrade using GUI (Web).
Firmware upgrade using CLI FTP.
system-upgrade ftp <path> <server> [:<port>] [<user>:<password>]
Note that for this article example, the firmware image was in the root directory of the FTP server and no user and password were required.
Firmware upgrade using CLI TFTP.
system-upgrade tftp <path> <server> [:<port>] [<user>:<password>]

Note: For version 3.0.0, it is not possible to upgrade from older versions and only fresh installations are supported.
