Description This article explains why a static route configuration may not be seen in the GUI despite how a see relevant route with gateway is seen in the routing-table when the WAN is in DHCP mode. The same is applicable for a PPPOE mode interface. A fix is provided.
Scope FortiGate.
Solution

When the WAN interface is in DHCP mode, a parameter in the GUI named 'Default gateway' can be seen. When it is enabled, a static route will automatically be created in the routing-table with the retrieved gateway information.

In the GUI, no static route configuration is shown or required:

On the routing-table:

get router info routing-table all

Routing table for VRF=0
S* 0.0.0.0/0 [5/0] via 192.x.x.x, wan1, [1/0] <---- Default route is added

When the above 'Default gateway' parameter is disabled, the static route entry is no longer shown.
