Description

This article describes how to fix the permanent APIPA and PC can not get an IP address from any DHCP server.

Scope

Windows, FortiGate.

Solution

When receiving an APIPA such as 169.254.87.39 and already releasing and renewing the IP address assigned, open a cmd and type the next command:

Netsh winsock reset

After typing the commands, restart the PC.
Type 'services' on the Windows Search bar.
Look for the DHCP client, 'right-click' on it, and select stop. Do the same process, select properties, and change the configuration as follows:

Select Accept and restart the PC. An IP address should be received on the PC.
