Description This article describes what to troubleshoot when seeing the FortiSwitch showing 'not registered' on FortiGate.
Scope FortiGate.
Solution

When this issue occurs, this does not act 'offline', the FortiSwitch is connected to FortiGate but still able to work as expected.

However red alert symbol will be seen and the status will show 'not registered'.

Before proceeding, verify that the date, time, and timezone are the same as they are in the managing FortiGate.

Use the below command to verify the connection status:

exec switch-controller get-conn-statu
execute switch-controller get-physical-con
execute switch-controller get-physical-conn standard <fortilink name
execute switch-controller diagnose-connection <device id>

Also, collect the FortiGate debug using the Fortinet Support Tool to verify if there is any GUI issue.

Make sure, as well, that the FortiGate and FortiSwitch use the latest patch release.

Note: There is a known issue on 7.4.4 showing if the name of the switch-controller does not match the SN, 'not registered' as well.

config switch-controller managed-swit

edit "test" <-- Name does not match 'sn', therefore the bug exists.

Upgrade the FortiGate to 7.4.5 to resolve the issue.
