Description

 

This article describes how to troubleshoot bandwidth issues and detect which host consumes the most bandwidth.

Scope


FortiGate.

Solution

 

To check the interface bandwidth utilization, go to Dashboard -> Status -> Add widget -> Interface Bandwidth -> Specify Interface -> Add widget.

The chart shows the selected interface's real-time incoming and outgoing traffic bandwidth.
 
Incoming (RX) and Outgoing (TX) Packets Per Second (PPS) on FortiGate interfaces can be monitored using the following CLI command:
 

diagnose netlink interface packet-rate

To check the highest bandwidth utilization by source, go to Dashboard -> FortiView Sources -> Sort by Bytes.

Ensure that logging is enabled on the firewall policies by going to Policy & Objects -> Firewall Policy -> Select Firewall policy -> Edit, enable logging by enabling Log allowed traffic.
