Description | This article describes the difference between web filter log request type 'direct' versus 'referral'. |
Scope | FortiGate. |
Solution |
Request type: 'direct' means the user key in the URL in the browser. Request type: 'referral' means the user selects the URL in a website and it refers to another website. It is possible to find the information with browser debug and check on the 'Headers' for the Request URL.
Example: When browsing https://signin.esmplus.com/login and selecting the 'AUCTION' tab, browser debug shows it refers to the URL https://montelena-rcv.gmarket.com.
