Description This article describes how to understand FortiGate-480xF Power Redundancy.
Scope FortiGate-480xF.
Solution

If there is insufficient power for the FortiGate-480xF, the FortiGate-480xFmay shut down with the following messages on the console:

FG481F-01-A04 (global)# Only 1 PSU detected. Power Redundancy Failure. Prepare to shutdown

The system is going down NOW !!

The FortiGate-480xF requires at least 2 power supplies in order to function properly. If a system has only 1 PSU, the FortiGate-480xF will shut down with above log message.

The FortiGate-480x Operates with 2+2 PSUs, where 2 PSUs are redundant. There is no zoning for PSUs, and the load is shared across all the PSUs in the chassis; hence, no specific PSU placement is needed.

Recovery after PSUs are back online:

In the event of a power-down situation like the one above, for example, there is only 1x PSU left, and the system has powered down. After the PSU replacement is done, both 2x PSUs need to be reset in order to trigger the FG-480xF to boot up.
