Description This article describes how to upgrade the Firmware version for a new device.
Scope FortiGate v6.X and v7.X,
Solution

When manually upgrading Firmware from System-> Firmware this error appears:

Step 1: Reboot the Firewall and press any key to enter into the configuration menu to check the security level.

 

[C]: Configure TFTP parameters.
[R]: Review TFTP parameters.
[T]: Initiate TFTP firmware transfer.
[F]: Format boot device.
[I]: System information.
[B]: Boot with backup firmware and set as default.
[Q]: Quit menu and continue to boot.
[H]: Display this list of options.

 

Step 2: Enter option I.


[S]: Set serial port baudrate.
[R]: Set restricted mode.
[T]: Set menu timeout.
[U]: Set security level.
[I]: Display system information.
[E]: Reset system configuration.
[Q]: Quit this menu.
[H]: Display this list of options.

 

Step 3: Enter option U.


[0]: Level 0 - Not check image
[1]: Level 1 - Check image only
[2]: Level 2 - Check image and reinforce validity

Enter security level setting [1]: 

 

Step 4: Enter option 0 to set security level 0.

Step 5: Exit the configuration menu and continue booting OS.

Step 6: Firmware upgrade using GUI System->Firmware.

Note:
Make sure the platform image matches with the current platform. On the support.fortinet.com website for image download, there are some images for the same model, but the platform is different:

  1. FFW is for FortiFirewall.
  2. FWF is for FortiWifi.
  3. FGR is for FortiGate Rugged.
  4. FGT is for FortiGate.
