Description

This article describes how to allow ping Windows Device from FortiGate.

Scope FortiGate.
Solution

By default, the Windows device is not responding and blocking ICMP ping requests. In this sample output, the Windows device is detected by the firewall but not reachable through ping.

Here are the steps to allow ping on Windows devices.

  1. Go to the search box and search Windows Defender Firewall with Advanced Security.
  2. Go to Inbound rules and find File and Printer Sharing (Echo – Request – ICMPv4-In).

  1. Enable File and Printer Sharing (Echo – Request – ICMPv4-In) on Public and Private profiles. Select the Echo-Request-ICMPv4-In, check the box that says enable and finally select OK to save, as displayed below.

Below is the output after enabling File and Printer Sharing on Windows devices. The device becomes reachable from the firewall:
