Description This article describes the reason for being unable to locate the firmware file for FortiOS v7.4.8 for FortiGate 70G in the Fortinet Support Portal.
Scope FortiGate 70G.
Solution

FortiOS v7.4.8 for FortiGate 70G has been intentionally removed in the Fortinet Support Portal and FortiGuard. Hence, the user will not be able to upgrade the firmware of FortiGate 70G to v7.4.8 via FortiGuard or the manual method.

This is due to an issue with a BIOS Certificate Failure that happens specifically on the FortiGate 70G hardware and specific FortiGate firmware versions. Patched versions of FortiOS v7.4.9 and v7.6.4 have been released to FortiGuard. The Customer Support Bulletin for this issue is available in the FortiOS v7.4.9 download folder:

As a result, FortiGate 70G does not have an available v7.4.8 firmware image.

Resolution:

Upgrade to v7.4.9, which is available in FortiGuard or the Fortinet Support Portal.

To download the firmware from the Fortinet Support Portal, follow the steps below:

  1. Log in to the Fortinet Support Portal.
  2. Select 'Downloads' from the sidebar -> Select 'Firmware Images'.

Or:

Select 'Support' from the top -> Select 'Firmware Download' -> Select 'Product' -> Select 'Download'.

Products unaffected:

This issue only affects the base model FortiGate 70G and does not affect other models in the FortiGate 70G/71G family, such as:

  • FortiGate Rugged 70G.
  • FortiGate 70G-POE.
  • FortiWiFi 70G.
  • FortiGate 71G.

Unaffected models continue to have FortiOS v7.4.8 firmware available.

The issue is only triggered for specific FortiGate 70G serial numbers. If the device is already successfully running FortiOS v7.4.8, v7.4.9, or v7.6.4, it is unaffected, and there is no need to upgrade the unit further to address this issue.
