Description This article describes the issue that occurs when an SSID is not broadcast by the FortiAP, even if the broadcast SSID is enabled on the FortiAP.
Scope FortiGate v7.0, v7.2, FortiAP.
Solution

When an SSID is created on the FortiGate, the broadcast SSID option is enabled by default; sometimes, the SSID will not get broadcast.

  1. Make sure that on the FortiAP profile, the SSID is included in the Manual option and set on each radio.

  1. Make sure that the broadcast schedule on the SSID is set as 'always'.

Note :

  1. When a FortiAP is powered via PoE, ensure that sufficient power is available; otherwise, the SSID may not broadcast. If power is insufficient, use a power adapter to connect the FortiAP to a power source. For some advanced troubleshooting of the PoE status on the FortiAP, refer to: Troubleshooting Tip: Steps to configure static POE power management and POE debugging on the FortiAP...

  2. Note that if a client device does not support certain Wi-Fi channels (particularly in the 5 GHz or 6 GHz bands), it will not be able to detect or connect to the SSID being broadcast on those channels.
This behavior is expected and can occur in the following scenarios:
  • Older or region-locked devices that do not support DFS (Dynamic Frequency Selection) channels.

  • Devices with limited 5 GHz/6 GHz band support.

  • Devices restricted by regulatory domain settings.
