Description This article describes the behavior of the Redundant Power Supply Unit (PSU) for FortiGate-9xG and 12xG.
Scope FortiGate-9xG and 12xG.
Solution

It is expected that when there are 2 PSU connected, and when one of them fails, the Power (PWR) status would turn red/amber: LEDs

For 9xG and 12xG, the LED status would only change after 60 seconds. This is due to the hardware sensor behavior by default, in which it will check the sensor information every 60 seconds. This behavior cannot be changed.

In the following example, one PSU has been unplugged but the status is not reflected immediately :

FortiGate-121G # exe sensor list
[HW monitor sensors]
1 PSU [1] ....................... OK <----- Status is still OK.
2 PSU [2] ....................... OK
3 SYS Fan1 Speed ................ 4455 RPM
4 SYS Fan2 Speed ................ 4561 RPM
5 TMP1 External Temperature ..... 34.9 C
6 TMP4 Temperature .............. 39.0 C
7 CPU ON-DIE Temperature ........ 52.3 C

After 60 seconds, then the status is reflected and the system log will be updated :

FortiGate-121G # exe sensor list
[HW monitor sensors]
1 PSU [1] ....................... LOST <----- Updated.
2 PSU [2] ....................... OK
3 SYS Fan1 Speed ................ 4470 RPM
4 SYS Fan2 Speed ................ 4545 RPM
5 TMP1 External Temperature ..... 35.4 C
6 TMP4 Temperature .............. 39.0 C
7 CPU ON-DIE Temperature ........ 52.1 C
8 BCM56160 Temperature .......... 50.1 C
9 BCM5720 Temperature ........... 60.6 C
