Description

This article describes the feature change of SD-WAN Load Balancing in version 7.4.1 and above compared to the previous versions.

Scope FortiGate.
Solution

In previous versions, the load balancing on SD-WAN rules was done only by the MAXIMIZE SLA BANDWIDTH strategy, but this feature is now enhanced, and to be specific, it was removed and added as a part of MANUAL and LOWEST COST (SLA).

  • In previous versions (version 7.2.6 has been taken as an example here):

  • On version 7.4.1:

After selecting 'manual' or 'sla', the 'load-balance' will appear and can be enabled.

On new versions, Load balancing can be done by both MANUAL MODE and LOWEST COST SLA MODE.

  • The load balancing toggle button should be enabled as per above.
  • In manual MODE, when Load balancing is enabled, it will not check for the SLA targets (does not depend on SLA targets).
  • On the LOWEST COST SLA MODE, when load balancing is enabled, it will check the SLA targets configured. SD-WAN will then choose all of the links that satisfy the SLA target to forward traffic based on a load-balancing algorithm.
