Description

This article explains the feature change of SD-WAN Load Balancing in version 7.4.1 and above compared to the previous versions.

Scope FortiGate.
Solution

In previous versions, the load balancing on SD-WAN rules was done only by the MAXIMIZE SLA BANDWIDTH strategy but this feature is now enhanced and to be specific it was been removed and added as a part of MANUAL and LOWEST COST(SLA).

  • In previous versions (version 7.2.6 has been taken as an example here):

On new versions, Load balancing can be done by both MANUAL MODE and LOWEST COST SLA MODE

  • The load balancing toggle button should be enabled as per above.
  • ON MANUAL MODE when Load balancing is enabled it will not check for the SLA targets (does not depend on SLA targets).
  • ON LOWEST COST SLA MODE when load balancing is enabled it will check the SLA targets configured, SD-WAN will then choose all of the links that satisfy the SLA target to forward traffic based on a load balancing algorithm.
