This article describes how to recover login credentials after upgrading to v7.4.7 to access the GUI. |
| Scope | FortiGate. |
| Solution |
Certain firewalls are no longer accessible via GUI with admin credentials after the firmware update to v7.4.7, and starting with v7.6.x.
There may be several reasons why authentication is unsuccessful.
If the above requirements are met, resetting the user password helps to provide GUI access again.
Option 1:
Create a new user using the credentials that worked before the upgrade:
Steps:
LAB-01# conf sys admin
Change the password (minimum of four characters). Now log in again via GUI to the FortiGate using the new password that has just been modified.
Option 2: Create a user through FortiCloud. Subscription required: Technical Tip: Reset FortiGate admin password via FortiGate Cloud.
Option 3: If there is only one admin account configured and the admin is unable to log into the GUI to change the password, password recovery needs to be done using this documentation: Technical Tip: Resetting a lost admin password. Option 4: It is possible to roll back the upgrade from the BIOS by booting off the backup partition. This method requires access to the console. For instructions on how to rollback to the previous firmware version through console, see Technical Tip: Boot the backup firmware and config via console . More details can be seen in this article (search for 'Alternate Method'): Technical Tip: Selecting an alternate firmware for the next reboot. |
