Description This article describes how to change a VDOM name.
Scope Any supported version of FortiGate.
Solution

Note: It is not possible to rename a VDOM from the GUI or CLI. It must be changed via backup configuration and restoration.

 

To rename a VDOM using backup configuration, follow these steps: 

  1. Backup global configuration (not the VDOM configuration).

  1. Next, open the configuration in a text editor such as Notepad++ and replace the old VDOM name with a new VDOM name (Make sure that all references to the old VDOM name are replaced with the new VDOM name).

  1. Save the configuration with the name change and restore the new configuration. The VDOM name will change to the new one:

  1. The VDOM change will be reflected in the VPN:

Note: There is a limit of 11 characters for the length of a VDOM name. Longer names will not be accepted by default.
