Technical Tip: How to open the CLI window in GUI and download output

This article describes how to open the CLI window in the GUI in various firmware and download output.

Solution

In some cases, it is required to run commands in the FortiGate CLI to get the output/information. The GUI allows running the commands in a CLI window from the dashboard.

Use the following ways to open the CLI window from the dashboard depending on different firmware versions. Select > CLI Console or the CLI symbol >_ to open the CLI window in the GUI.

1. For v5.4:

To download the generated output use the Download Icon and all session logs will be saved as a text file.

The CLI window can be renamed using the 'Edit' icon in the title pane. This helps in easy identification when working with multiple windows and even for the downloaded files. Otherwise, all downloaded files are named as 'CLI Console(x)'.
