Description This article outlines how to customize the default html script for replacement messages. For the purpose of this article, a FortiGate running 7.4.9 is used.
Scope All supported versions of FortiOS.
Solution

Below are the steps required to customize the HTML script for a replacement message via the FortiGate GUI:

  • In the FortiGate GUI, navigate to System -> Replacement Messages. There are two views available for replacement messages: 'Simple view' and 'Extended View'. 'Simple View' shows 5 replacement message categories (with associated sub-categories), which are Authentication, FortiGuard Web Filtering, HTTP, Security Profiles, and SSL VPN:

  • 'Extended View' shows 15 replacement message categories (with associated sub-categories) which are Admin, Alert E-mail, Authentication, Automation, Email, FortiGuard Web Filtering, FTP, HTTP, ICAP, Network Quarantine, Security Profiles, Spam, SSL VPN, Traffic Quota, and Web-proxy:

  • For the purposes of this article, the 'FortiGuard Block Page' replacement message will be modified which is visible in either 'Simple View' or 'Extended View'. In the FortiGate GUI, navigate to System -> Replacement Messages -> Expand the 'FortiGuard Web Filtering' category and select 'FortiGuard Block Page', then select 'Edit':

  • In the 'FortiGuard Block Page' edit window, the actual block page visible to users is on the left, and the HTML script is on the right:

  • To modify the page that the users will see, locate the corresponding text in the HTML script on the right side of the page. For this article, the 'Web Page Blocked' text will be changed to 'Web Page Violation' for demonstration purposes:

  • In the HTML script, change the 'Web Page Blocked' text to 'Web Page Violation' to make the change visible immediately. Select 'Save' at the bottom of the page to save the change:

  • Once saved, there will be a green check mark circle visible in the 'Modified' column in the replacement message list for the 'FortiGuard Block Page' replacement message and visible in both the 'Simple View' and 'Extended View' replacement message lists:

  • To return the replacement message back to its default setting, edit the 'FortiGuard Block Page' replacement message again and select 'Restore Defaults' at the bottom of the edit page, which will immediately return the replacement message back to its default setting. Select 'Save'.

  • Once the replacement message has been returned to its default setting, the green check mark circle will no longer be visible in the 'Modified' column in the replacement message list:

Note: To modify the replacement message further, or to modify a different replacement message, repeat the steps outlined above.
