Description

This article describes how to use the Global Search feature in the FortiGate GUI.


The Global Search bar helps administrators quickly locate configuration pages, objects, and settings without manually navigating through multiple menu paths.

Scope FortiGate.
Solution

Accessing Global Search:

  • In the FortiGate GUI, the Global Search bar is located at the top-right section of the interface.

  • Select the search field to begin typing.

Using Global Search

  • Enter keywords such as:

    • Object names (Address, Services, Users).

    • Policy names.

    • Menu items (DNS, Routing, Interfaces).

  • The system will display matching results grouped by category.

 

Example:

Here, the Internet is the search keyword, which shows policies, web filter profiles, interface name, etc.

Note:

Global Search works only for GUI-visible objects and menu paths.

 

Filtered Search: 

Enable any of the categories and search, which will show result that belongs to that category:

Example: Search is filtered using Security Profiles, and only results related to the Internet under that category are shown.

Select the icon [↗] will redirect to the actual configurations.

The search results can be arranged in below orders:

 

  • Ascending/Descending Name or Relevance.
  • Ascending/Descending will show the orders based on the Character set.

 

If Relevance is selected, the items will be displayed based on weight, where CMDB objects would be preferred and represented at the top, while the Navigation objects at the end.
