Technical Tip: Get the channel ID for video filtering

Description This article describes how to get the channel ID for video filtering.
Scope FortiGate v7.0 and above.
Solution

For FortiGate v7.0 and later versions, a video filter profile can be configured to restrict access to certain YouTube channels by using the channel ID.

 

YouTube has implemented an easy but a bit hidden way to get a channel ID:

  • Go to the About tab.
  • Select the share button (arrow icon).
  • Select Copy Channel ID.

If the About tab is not visible, select the 'more' link from the YouTube channel description, select Share channel, then Copy channel ID.

Following this method, it is possible to quickly get the ID of the channel(s) needed to be filtered.
