Technical Tip: How to find the YouTube Channel ID used for video filter

Description This article describes how to find the YouTube channel ID.
Scope FortiGate.
Solution

For FortiGate v7.0 and later versions, a video filter profile can be configured to restrict access to certain YouTube channels by using the channel ID.

 

YouTube has implemented an easy but a bit hidden way to get a channel ID:

  • Go to the About tab.
  • Select the share button (arrow icon).
  • Select Copy Channel ID.

If the About tab is not visible, select the 'more' link from the YouTube channel description, select Share channel, then Copy channel ID.

Following this method, it is possible to quickly get the ID of a YouTube channel(s) that needs to be filtered.
