Description This article addresses an issue where the GUI login page times out unexpectedly, even when the 'Never Timeout' option is enabled in the admin profile.
Scope FortiGate v7.4.8, v7.6.3
Solution

After upgrading to the above versions, administrators assigned to a profile with 'Never Timeout' enabled will still experience session timeouts in the GUI after 5 minutes of inactivity.

In the admin webinterface (GUI) the setting can be found under System -> Admin Profiles -> Override Idle Timeout -> Never Timeout.

In the FortiGate CLI, the setting can be adjusted as follows:

config system accprofile

set admintimeout 0

Example CLI configuration:

config system accprofile
    edit "prof_admin"
        set secfabgrp read-write
        set ftviewgrp read-write
        set authgrp read-write
        set sysgrp read-write
        set netgrp read-write
        set loggrp read-write
        set fwgrp read-write
        set vpngrp read-write
        set utmgrp read-write
        set wifi read-write
        set admintimeout-override enable
        set cli-get enable
        set cli-show enable
        set cli-exec enable
        set cli-config enable
set admintimeout 0           <----- Admin session will never be logged out automatically due to inactivity.
    next
end

config system admin
    edit "admin1"
        set accprofile "prof_admin"
        set vdom "root"
        set password ENC PB2NDr9Y****
    next
end

  • v7.6.4 (now available to download).
  • v8.0.0 (scheduled to be released in February 2026).

These timelines for firmware release are estimates and may be subject to change.

A fix for FortiOS 7.4.10 is currently planned and awaiting confirmation.
