Description

This article describes the power supply failed log issue after the firmware upgrade to 7.0.8.

Scope

Software: Firmware v7.0.8.
Hardware: FortiGate-8xF and 10xF.

Solution

In FortiGate Firmware v7.0.8, the PSU Alarm log and SNMP trap have been introduced for FortiGate 10xF and 8xF models as per the known issue section #782962 in the release notes below:
https://docs.fortinet.com/document/fortigate/7.0.8/fortios-release-notes/289806/resolved-issues

If a single power supply is plugged into the FortiGate-8xF and 10xF, FortiGate will generate the below log every minute under Log & Report -> System Events:

date=2022-11-20 time=10:58:21 eventtime=1668970701989130220 tz="-0800" logid="0100022105" type="event" subtype="system" level="critical" vd="root" logdesc="Power supply failed" action="ipmc-sensor-monitor" status="failure" msg="PSU [2] not detected" utmref=0:1668970701

This log has a critical severity level, which means if there is  an alert mail setup, constant emails from FortiGate will be received.

This is expected behavior in 7.0.8.

Workaround:

These warnings can be avoided on the units by connecting both PSUs to the power source.
