Description

This article describes the 'Feature' and 'Mature' tags for FortiOS firmware.

Scope FortiGate.
Solution

Starting from v7.2.0, Feature and Mature tags were introduced as firmware tags. Once a branch of FortiOS is marked as Mature, all new releases on that branch will be Mature. This means that there are no added feature releases and only bug fixes.

For the 7.2.x and 7.4.x branches, versions past 7.2.7 and 7.4.5 are Mature. There is no mature release yet within 7.6 as of August 2025. There is no schedule or way of knowing in advance if a release will be tagged as 'Feature' or 'Mature' - TAC support or Customer Service does not have this information.

To check if a firmware is mature or not, navigate to the System -> Firmware & Registration -> Update page.
Select 'All Upgrades'. It is possible to see the current version at the top, and also the latest version of each branch along with the tag Mature or Feature.

To check in CLI, the current version and tag can be seen in the output of get sys stat (GA.F or GA.M).

For example:

  •  FortiOS 7.2.6 has the 'GA.F'/Feature tag:

  • FortiOS 7.2.7 has the 'GA.M'/Mature tag:
