Description

This article describes an issue where the FortiGate may display the error message 'Seed Import Failed' when attempting to import a physical FortiToken seed file into a FortiGate device.

Scope FortiGate v7.6.3, v7.6.4.
Solution

When attempting to import a physical FortiToken seed file into a FortiGate device, FortiGate may display the error message 'Seed Import Failed'.

This error does not indicate a problem with the token file. Instead, it is caused by a bug in the web-based management interface(GUI).

This issue has been resolved in:

  • v7.6.5 (scheduled to be released in December 2025).
  • v8.0.0 (scheduled to be released in March 2026).

These timelines for firmware release are estimated and may be subject to change.

Workaround:
Import the token seed via FTP or TFTP instead of GUI:

execute fortitoken import ftp <file name> <ftp server>[:ftp port] <Enter>|<user> <passwd>

Or:

execute fortitoken import tftp <file name> <tftp server>

After importing, the command 'get user fortitoken' can be used to verify token status.
