Description This article explains the expected behavior on a FortiGate operating in Transparent mode after the firmware upgrade from v7.2.x or v7.0.x to v7.4.0 and v7.4.5.
Scope FortiGate.
Solution

In earlier versions for example v7.2.x, the FortiGate operating in Transparent Mode can enable Multi-mode VDOM.

However, starting in v7.4.0 and7v.4.5, this is not allowed.

For example, v7.2.7 allows users to enable Multi-mode VDOM as per below:

config system setting
    set opmode transparent
<----- FortiGate's operation mode is in Transparent mode.
    set manageip 192.168.1.99/255.255.255.0

end

config sys global

(global) # set vdom-mode multi-vdom

(global) # end
You will be logged out for the operation to take effect.
Do you want to continue? (y/n)y

In version v7.4.0 and v7.4.5 this is not supported:

This is an expected behavior starting from v7.4.0 until v7.4.5 as of now.

Multi-VDOM mode will be available again for Transparent mode starting from FortiOS v7.4.7 for 7.4.

Note:

In version v7.6.0, this is allowed again.
