Description
This article describes the expired notifications when a license was not purchased or renewed.
This will mostly happen if the license in question was activated earlier during POC, or on a trial basis.
Scope
FortiGate.
Solution
The commands 'registration-notification' and 'service-expire-notification' under 'config system global' have been removed since version 5.6.0.
Hence, the FortiGate displaying a Red exclamation mark under System -> FortiGuard for the license that was expired/not renewed is expected.
Regarding the red exclamation mark, FortiGuard will continue to flag the license as expired until it is renewed. This has been verified, as the FortiGate licenses for Antivirus, Web Filtering, and Firmware & General Updates expired on 18-09-2024, exceeding 90 days, yet the notifications remain visible under System → FortiGuard, as shown in the attached screenshot below.
This behavior is expected with FortiGate and cannot be deactivated or disabled directly.
The auto trail entitlements (Antivirus/IPS/Webfilter) are generated automatically by FortiGuard servers when devices without such licenses connect to FortiGuard servers.
If the FortiGate is still running firmware before v5.6.0, it can be disabled as below:
config sys global
set service-expire-notification disable
end
However, if email alerts are enabled for this purpose then they can be disabled under the:
config alertemail setting
(setting)set FDS-license-expiring-warning disable
(setting)end
If the FortiGates are managed using FortiManager v6.2.2 (onward).
To acknowledge expired trial licenses.
