Technical Tip: CLI Behavior When Using FortiGate Cloud to Manage a FortiGate on v7.6.4

Description	This article describes the CLI behavior of a FortiGate running FortiOS v7.6.4 when managed through the FortiGate Cloud portal.
Scope	FortiGate v7.6.4.
Solution	When accessing the FortiGate running FortiOS v7.6.4 via FortiGate Cloud portal, an administrator may not be able to check the configuration using the CLI commands. VPN config, for instance: However, no issues are seen when a local admin account is logged into FortiGate.   It has been observed that on FortiGate running v7.6.4, the default VDOM may not be the usual root VDOM when logged into FortiGate via the FortiGate Cloud portal. Use the command 'get system status' to verify the current VDOM. Here is the sample output. Under 'Current virtual domain', the VDOM is 'vsys_fgfm', which is usually an internal VDOM. The output for most of the CLI commands may be unexpected until the correct VDOM is selected. This issue has been resolved in: v7.6.5 (scheduled to be released in December 2025). v8.0.0 (scheduled to be released in March 2026). These timelines for firmware release are estimated and may be subject to change. Workaround: To switch to the correct VDOM when using FortiGate Cloud, run the command 'execute enter root'. This command manually moves the CLI session to the desired VDOM.
