Technical Tip: Blocking web pages bypassed using Google Translate

Description
This article describes how to block web pages bypassed using Google Translate.

"translate.google.com" works as a third party proxy server. When the user "translates" the website (for example: www.facebook.com), this one is redirected by Google embedding the new URL (www.facebook.com) into the original (translate.google.com). For this reason the FortiGate cannot block the access to this site under this conditions.

Scope
To block Web Pages that are trying to bypass the WebFilter using Google Translate as a proxy server.

Solution

Create a urlfilter entry in the WebFilter Profile with these values:

url:     .*\/translate.*
type :  regex
action :  block
status :  enable
