Description This article describes the behavior of Local Administrator Credential with Special Character when upgraded to v7.4 version and higher.
Scope FortiGate v7.4 and v7.6.
Solution

Starting from v7.4, the  configuration of Admin credentials should strictly follow the following format:

  • Include lower and upper case letters (a-z, A-Z), numbers (0-9), underscores (_), and dashes (-).
  • Cannot start with a dash (-).
  • Can end with dollar symbol ($).

If the FortiGate Firmware is v7.2 and has a Local Administrator Credential that does not follow the format mentioned above, this format of Local Administrator Credential will be allowed to be inherited and will not change if the FortiGate is upgraded to v7.4 and v7.6. 

 

For testing purposes, -test.num1 Local Administrator was created on v7.2.11:
