This article discusses the criteria for the BGP router-id selection.

Scope

FortiGate.

Solution

Below are the criteria for BGP Router ID selection.

Use the address configured manually as the router-id with the below command.

config router bgp

set router-id 2.2.2.2

end

It uses the Loopback interface address with the highest IP address if the router-id is not configured manually.
It uses the highest IP address of the interface if the loopback interface is not configured.
