To avoid publication of domain names that belong to a legitimate website or could potentially be used as future top level domain (TLD) names in the global domain name system (DNS), RFC 2606, Reserved Top Level DNS Names, provides a list of top level domain names reserved for use in private testing, as examples in documentation, etc.
