Description

This article describes how a FortiGate transfer in the Asset Management portal will be handled within FortiGate Cloud.

Scope FortiGate Cloud
Solution

Scenario: A FortiGate device is transferred from Account A to Account B within the Asset Management portal.

Impact on FortiGate Cloud: When FortiGate Cloud receives a notification about the transfer event, it will first verify the device-account relationship locally.

  • If the transfer is verified (i.e., the FortiGate is provisioned to account A in FortiGate Cloud), FortiGate Cloud will deprovision the FortiGate from Account A. A new placeholder device (SN starts with U00) will be created in Account A to retain any existing data associated with the FortiGate.
  • If the transfer is not verified (i.e., the FortiGate is instead provisioned to another account, say Account C), no changes will occur to the FortiGate.

Next Steps for the User: If the FortiGate is successfully deprovisioned from Account A, the user will see the device appear in the inventory of Account B, ready for new provisioning.

Important Note: If cloud access is the only method for managing the FortiGate, do not use the Asset Management portal to perform the transfer. Instead, users should use the device transfer method provided in the FortiGate Cloud portal. This ensures the management tunnel remains intact, preventing any disruptions.
