How to Configure Web Filter Restrictions Based on Time Quotas?

Hello all,

On ForitGate 80F v7.2.10 build1706 (Mature) we want to configure browsing time restrictions for certain Web Categories to limit users accesses. Example, only have access to Sport Category for 30 minutes during the day.

I've been searching on FortiGate and the Knowledge base to learn how to perform this task.

Can anybody help me with this request?

Thank you in advanced for your valuable support.

Regards,

Hi @Aramis

Steps to Configure Web Filter Restrictions Based on Time Quotas

  1. Log in to the FortiGate Web Interface:

    • Open your web browser and enter the IP address of your FortiGate device.
    • Log in with your administrative credentials.
  2. Create a Time Period:

    • Go to Policy & Objects > Schedules > Time.
    • Click on Create New.
    • Name the schedule (e.g., "Sport_Access_Time").
    • Set the desired time frame for access (e.g., Monday to Friday from 08:00 to 08:30).
    • Click OK to save.
  3. Create a Web Filter Profile:

    • Go to Security Profiles > Web Filter.
    • Click on Create New to create a new web filter profile.
    • Name the profile (e.g., "Limited_Sport_Access").
    • Under Web Content Filter, enable URL Filter and add the Sports category.
    • Click on Advanced Options (if available) to configure the category settings.
  4. Configure the Quota:

    • Under the Quota section of the web filter profile:
      • Enable the quota feature.
      • Set the quota limit (e.g., 30 minutes).
      • Choose the time period you created earlier (e.g., "Sport_Access_Time").
  5. Apply the Web Filter Profile to a Policy:

    • Go to Policy & Objects > IPv4 Policy.
    • Edit the existing policy or create a new one for the user group you want to restrict.
    • Under the Security Profiles section, enable Web Filter and select the profile you created (e.g., "Limited_Sport_Access").
    • Click OK to save the policy.
