Description

This article describes how to configure a new password on FortiExtender without doing a factory reset.

FortiExtender is a WAN/LAN extension solution from Fortinet and does not allow direct password changes for the default admin user. This article provides a step-by-step process to log in with a new credential using a new admin profile for a standalone FortiExtender.

Scope FortiExtender
Solution

By default, FortiExtender does not permit the modification of the admin password directly. Instead, administrators must create a new profile with appropriate privileges to manage password configurations.

  1. Create a New Profile: A new admin profile must be created to enable password customization.
  2. Assign the Profile to an Account: Once the profile is created, map it to an account profile with the necessary permissions.
  3. Set the Profile as Super Admin: To grant full administrative rights, assign the super_admin role to the new profile.
  4. Configure the Password: After mapping and assigning permissions, set a secure password for the new profile.

Below is an example of creating a 'test' admin profile.

FEX004 # config system admin
FEX004 (admin) #
FEX004 (admin) #
FEX004 (admin) # edit test
FEX004 (test) <M> # set accprofile super_admin
FEX004 (test) <M> # set password test123
FEX004 (test) <M> # end
FEX004 # ^
FEX004 #

  1. Log in with the 'test' profile. After making the above changes, log out from the FortiExtender and log in with the 'test' credentials.
