Description

This article describes a solution for the 'Network Timeout' error encountered when deploying GIT application services on an Ubuntu decoy within FortiDeceptor.

Scope

FortiDeceptor V 6.0. The environment used in this article is Ubuntu Deception OS.

Solution

Issue:

When using the Deployment Wizard in the FortiDeceptor platform to create a new decoy with Ubuntu as the deception OS, enabling only the GIT service without also enabling HTTP/HTTPS services leads to a failure. Specifically, the decoy will not initialize as expected, and the error 'Network Timeout' will appear in the decoy status.

Solution:

To resolve this issue:

  1. Enable Required Services: Ensure that both HTTP and HTTPS services are enabled alongside the GIT service when configuring the decoy. The GIT service currently relies on HTTP/HTTPS to function correctly. Without these, the GIT service will not start, leading to the network timeout error.

  1. Future Update: Be aware that in upcoming firmware versions, the GIT and web services will be separated to avoid this dependency.
