Description This article describes how to fix the error related to Decoy failing to deploy.
Scope All FortiDeceptor VMs.
Solution

A situation may occur where the Decoy fails to deploy in the FortiDeceptor VM.

In such cases, the error displayed for the Decoy should be reviewed.

If the Decoy shows an error such as 'failed to fork vm process'.

The issue is typically related to nested virtualization not being enabled on the hypervisor where the FortiDeceptor VM is running.

For different hypervisors, the configuration steps vary; therefore, the hypervisor vendor’s support documentation should be consulted.

This requirement is also documented in the FortiDeceptor Deployment Guide as a minimum system requirement.

Minimum System Requirements

FortiDeceptor VM has specific CPU requirements, including:

  • Intel Virtualization Technology (VT-x/EPT), or:

  • AMD Virtualization (AMD-V/RVI).

Virtualization Technology and 64-bit support must be enabled in the system BIOS.

Additional details are available in the VMware and Proxmox documentation.
