Description This article describes useful tools that can be used to examine any issues that arise during FortiClient signature updates.
Scope FortiClient, FortiClient EMS.
Solution

In the event of any issues encountered during AV signature updates, follow the steps outlined below, which may assist in troubleshooting.

Execute two commands from the C:\Program Files\Fortinet\FortiClient> folder

 

update_task.exe -s fd_01 > C:\update.txt

update_task.exe -d > C:\update2.txt

 

Results can be examined as follows:

The following are the suggested steps to fix the issue:

 

  • Verify whether firewall traffic to the destination 'serverip=fctupdate.fortinet.net, serverport=443' is allowed.
  • For testing purposes, SSL Deep inspection can be disabled in the respective firewall policy.
  • Additionally, change the FortiGuard servers to Global/US/Europe on EMS and attempt the process again.

For testing purposes only (not recommended), disable the 'Enable SSL' option under 'EMS -> System Settings -> FortiGuard Services' and attempt the process again to observe any changes.
