This article describes fixing error messages with ‘Future license’ while syncing a new FortiClient EMS license. |
| Scope | FortiClient EMS v6.4.2 and below. |
| Solution |
After the EMS license has been purchased and registered in a FortiCloud account to renew an existing license, the license must be activated in EMS to manage any FortiClient endpoint.
To register a license in a FortiCloud account, see the Licensing EMS by logging in to the FortiCloud—FortiClient 6.4.2 administration guide. To activate a FortiClient EMS license by logging in to the FortiCloud account, see Sync License Now - FortiClient EMS 6.4.2 administration guide. Sometimes, an error message 'Future license' appears after syncing the license by navigating to EMS console -> Administration -> Configure License -> Sync License Now.
This was due to the existing EMS version not supporting the new license that was made to activate. For example, if the existing EMS version is older than 6.4.3 but the renewed license type is ZTNA or EPP, it is not supported, which then leads to the error. ZTNA or EPP license type is only supported in EMS version 6.4.3 and above.
For more information about the EMS licensing type, see Technical Tip: FortiClient EMS Licensing Guide - 2023. To avoid this error message, it is strongly suggested to upgrade EMS to the latest supported version before the new license can be activated in EMS to manage the FortiClient endpoint. |
