Description This article describes the error 'Legacy Fabric Agent license is not supported after the upgrade' when upgrading to EMS version 7.2.0.
Scope FortiClient EMS server 7.2.0.
Solution

It is necessary to have FortiClient ZTNA Agent (SKU 428) or EPP license (SKU 429) to upgrade to EMS 7.2.0.

The upgrade to EMS 7.2.0 will not be successful if the current license is a Fabric Agent license (SKU 297).

The option to convert the license type is available in the Fortinet Support Portal (https://support.fortinet.com).

It is possible to access and log in to the Fortinet support portal -> Asset Management -> Product List, search for EMS serial number, and select it.

Under the contract details, there is a Convert hyperlink. Select the Convert hyperlink to convert the license SKU.

The difference between the FortiClient Fabric Agent license (SKU 297) and FortiClient ZTNA Agent/EPP (SKU 428/429) is that the SKU 297 includes Antivirus and App Firewall feature.

Once the license is converted to SKU 428, a ZTNA license will be obtained, and lose Antivirus and Application Firewall feature:
Refer: https://docs.fortinet.com/document/forticlient/7.0.0/licensing-guide/305570/windows-macos-and-linux-...

Note that once the license SKU is converted, rollback to the previous SKU is not possible.

For any questions or concerns, reach out to the local Fortinet sales team or partner for further review on the licensing before converting the license SKU.
