Description |
This article describes how to use a custom event handler in FortiAnalyzer to raise alerts for incident responses related to attacks that attempt to bypass FortiGate authentication on administrative interfaces. A report is also provided to gain historical visibility into your logs. |
Scope |
FortiAnalyzer, FortiGate. FortiAnalyzer will be used to raise the alerts. The vulnerability affects FortiGate. |
Solution |
Attached to this article are the files necessary to load an event handler and report into your FortiAnalyzer for either a Fabric ADOM or a FortiGate ADOM. The Fabric report and event handler leverage logs from other Fortinet products that can be used to detect the attack in addition to FortiGate logs. For more information about this vulnerability, see the following PSIRT advisory: FG-IR-22-377
What is included in Fortinet_FG-IR-22-377.zip?
1) FG-IR-22-377_event-handler.json This event handler helps identify FG-IR-22-377 attacks detected by FortiGates and other Fortinet products.
2) FG-IR-22-377_report.dat This report contains findings on FG-IR-22-377 attacks from FortiGates and other Fortinet products.
3) fgt_FG-IR-22-377_event-handler.json The event handler for FortiGate ADOMs. This is configured only for FortiGate logs.
4) fgt_FG-IR-22-377_report.dat The report for FortiGate ADOMs. This includes only FortiGate charts.
Steps 1) Download the Fortinet_FG-IR-22-377.zip file, which contains the 4 files mentioned above.
2) Unzip Fortinet_FG-IR-22-377.zip.
3) Import the FG-IR-22-377_event-handler.json or fgt_FG-IR-22-377_event-handler.json event handler: - Choose an ADOM (if ADOMs are enabled). The ADOM may have either the Fabric or FortiGate type: - Choose the FortiSOC module. - Select Event Handler List. - Select the Import option under More. - Select the appropriate event handler, depending on the ADOM type.
Result: The event handler is enabled and will be triggered if logs indicating a FG-IR-22-377 attack are received after the import of the event handler. Edit the event handler to customize the notification section.
4) Import FG-IR-22-377_report.dat or fgt_FG-IR-22-377_report.dat to Reports:
- Choose an ADOM (if ADOMs are enabled). The ADOM may have either the Fabric or FortiGate type. - Select the appropriate file for the ADOM type to add the report to the ADOM.
Result: The FG-IR-22-377_report can be run at any time determined by an admin user. |
